Snow, Sunshine and Rainbows - Rowena and Richard's Magical Merewood Wedding

January 27, 2015  •  6 Comments

My first wedding of 2015, and what a cracker!

I arrived a little earlier than normal, to join Richard and their guests on a lake cruise. I've done many wedding cruises, in all sorts of conditions and seasons...but never one before the ceremony. WHAT a good idea. It was entirely practical and the perfect way to clear everyone's heads after a celebratory meal at The Lamplighter the evening before! No high heels, no ineffective shawls...we were all clad head to toe in thermals, woollens and sensible boots - making for a far more enjoyable experience!

The scenery was stunning, a constantly changing cinematic backdrop. Through my 70-200mm lens I could just capture the light twinkling in Rowena's bedroom back up at Merewood, where she was enjoying the peace and quiet, preparing herself for the big day.

On our return to the hotel we were greeted by roaring fires and piles of delicious snacks (it is hard work, honestly...)

Having a fairly intimate number of guests, Rowena and Richard chose to marry in the Green Room, which was just perfect. After the ceremony we made the most of the beautiful clear weather in the grounds, before heading back in to the Lonsdale Suite for the main celebrations.

It won't surprise you to find out that Rowena is an Art Director and Designer. Her stunning taste and artistic vision sang their way through every tiny detail. The team at Valerie Ann's Florist did an amazing job of helping to bring her ideas to life with breathtaking blooms - from the woodland-inspired centre pieces, to the buttonholes and bouquet - they were just magical.

As the evening drew in, the fun and games spilled out into the elegant conservatory bar area, where Richard's friend and colleague Marie Clare sang beautifully while the guests chatted and relaxed. I headed off after the first dance, but left them enjoying more dancing, a casino and mini fish and chips. TOTAL guest-envy at this wedding...though I have to say it was pretty awesome being there as a photographer too!
